Term Description
WOSM Word Organisation of the Scout Movement
Woggle Small ring type item that holds the scarf/neckerchief together
Unit Venturer Unit – Collection of youth members, can be many within a group
Troop Scout Troop – Collection of youth members, can be many within a group
Staff (Staves) Pole which can be used for mounting a flag or for construction
Seonee Meeting of Joey and Cub Leaders from across the region to discuss upcoming activities
Section Youth Section is one of the age specific groups in age order: Joey, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers & Rovers
Scarf/Neckerchief Part of the uniform and is worn around the neck and secured with a Woggle
Region A region is a scouting area which includes many districts and groups. A Region is lead by a Regional Commissioner (RC) and Assistant Regional Commissioners (ARC) along with it’s own committee
Redclaw Name of the major Region Scout Camp held annually, groups from across the region attend
Pack/Troop/Unit/Crew Council Meeting of the Section Leader and the Youth Leaders of that section. This is meeting allows the section to make plans.
Pack Cub Pack – Collection of youth members, can be many within a group
Nyleta Region Campsite located near Silkwood (south of Innisfail) and is an area within the Wooroonooran National Park located on Nyleta Ck.
Mob Joey Mob – Collection of youth members, can be many within a group
Mindari Meeting of Scout Leaders from across the region to discuss upcoming activities
Hop & Howl Name of the major Region Joey and Cub Camp held annual, groups from across the region attend
Group Leader This is the Scouts Australia trained leader and is the manager for the group. Their role is to support the Section Leaders and the Group Committee
Group Executive Committee The executive is drawn from the Group Committee. It includes 3 mandated roles of Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer.
Group Council Meeting of all leaders of the group. It allows all the Sections to plan their activities and training.
Group Committee Group of parents and community members who maintains all the resources (human & physical) for the group to operate. All parents are automatically members of the Group Committee and are encouraged to participate.
Group Scout Group consisting of 1 or more Youth Sections, has it’s own Committee and is run by the Group Leader
Galah Show Traditional scouting talent show usually held at camp
District A district is an area which contains around 5 Groups, Far North Region currently does not operate Districts and all Groups are directly under the Region

Crew Rover Crew – Collection of youth members
Branch Each state has it’s own branch of Scout Australia which is a manages the states members and is responsible to ensure policies and procedures meet local state laws
Barrabadeen Major Region Campsite located on private scout land at Lake Tinaroo, many adventurous activities are conducted here
